FTC Releases Updated FAQs
This morning, the FTC released its updated version of its Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The FAQs are intended to supplement the compliance materials available on the FTC website.

Parry Aftab to Speak at CARU's Conference
Parry Aftab was identified as "the leading expert in cybercrime in the United States," by the Boston Herald.
Jules Polonetsky, AOL's Chief Privacy Officer, said Parry was "part supermom, part Wonder Woman and part Oprah."
The US Congress formally honored her work in cyber-safety in 2005 and in 1999 UNESCO appointed her to head up its online child protection project for the United States.
Parry Aftab is known for her ability to "think outside of the box." Over the years Aftab has represented many of the leaders from the entertainment, Internet and consumer brand industries. Recently, Parry founded WiredTrust, a risk management consulting firm, to advise industry policy makers. When Internet policy, best practices and safety is involved, Parry Aftab is the first name mentioned.

Blackshaw, whose professional background encompasses public policy, interactive marketing, and brand management, is Executive Vice President of Strategic Services for Nielsen Online, a new entity combining Nielsen BuzzMetrics, a firm Pete helped co-found, and Nielsen NetRatings. A key focus for Pete revolves around how to help brands interpret, manage, act on consumer-generated media (CGM). A former interactive marketing leader at P&G and founder of consumer feedback portal PlanetFeedback.com, Pete co-founded the Word-of-Mouth Marketing Association (WOMMA). A popular speaker with Nielsen clients and at interactive marketing industry events, Pete serves as an Ad-Tech advisory board member, and authors several blogs including ConsumerGeneratedMedia.com.
He is author of a great book by Random House entitled "Satisfied Customers Tell Three Friends, Angry Customers Tell 3000: Running a Business in Today's Consumer-Driven World."

The CARU Annual Conference is scheduled for October 7, 2009 at New York City's W New York Hotel; 541 Lexington Ave. Expert panelists will consider challenging issues presently facing the Children’s Advertising Industry, focusing on how the digital age has changed the way companies market their products to children. Panelists will examine and demonstrate the practical application of governing standards and industry guidelines to these new emerging media platforms.
The conference will provide attendees with the opportunity to be on the forefront of the latest regulatory developments including an update on U.S. self-regulatory food initiatives, and the EU Privacy Directives.
